Most ant problems in Palm Beach County homes are ghost ants, big-headed ants, white-footed ants or fire ants, and each one needs a different approach. Spraying the trail you can see rarely solves it. We identify the species, find where the colony is nesting, treat the source inside and out, and give you a written service report so you know exactly what was done.
Ants are the most common pest call we get from Jupiter to Boca Raton. Our warm, wet climate means colonies stay active all year, and many South Florida species split into new colonies when they’re disturbed. That’s why store-bought sprays often make things worse.
Ants we treat most in Palm Beach County
- Ghost ants: tiny, pale ants that trail along kitchen counters, bathroom sinks and window frames. See our ant identification guide.
- Big-headed ants: leave little piles of sand along baseboards, patio pavers and pool decks.
- White-footed ants: huge numbers along exterior walls and up into the roofline.
- Fire ants: mounds in lawns, along driveways and near play areas. Their stings hurt and can cause reactions.
- Carpenter ants: larger ants that nest in damp or damaged wood. They’re often a sign of a moisture problem worth fixing.
How our ant control works
1. Inspect and identify
We find out which ant you have and where it’s coming from: wall voids, landscape beds, mulch, potted plants, or gaps around plumbing and windows.
2. Treat the source
Depending on the species, we use baits the workers carry back to the colony, targeted perimeter treatments, and mound treatments in the lawn. We treat inside only when it’s needed.
3. Report and follow up
You get a written service report describing what we found, what we applied and where. Initial treatments include a scheduled follow-up so we can confirm the activity is dropping.
What you can do between visits
- Wipe up sweet spills and keep pet food bowls clean.
- Trim shrubs and branches that touch the house; ants use them as bridges.
- Don’t spray ant trails with store-bought products while bait is working. It can scatter the colony.
- Tell us about any leaks. Moisture attracts several ant species.

Ant control FAQ
Why do ants keep coming back after I spray?
Most sprays kill the ants you can see but not the queen or the colony. Some South Florida species, like ghost ants and white-footed ants, split into new colonies when they’re stressed. Treating the colony with the right bait or product is what stops the cycle.
How long does it take to get rid of ants?
It depends on the species and how established the colonies are. Bait programs usually show a clear drop within a couple of weeks. Your service report and follow-up visit tell you where things stand.
Do you treat fire ants in the lawn?
Yes. We treat fire ant mounds and can include them in your home or lawn and ornamental program. Keep kids and pets away from mounds until we’ve treated them.
Is ant treatment OK around my kids and pets?
We use reduced-risk products, reviewed before use, and apply them according to the label. Your technician will explain any precautions, such as how long to keep pets off a treated area. See our pet and kid friendly pest control page.
